It's Presidents Day. Former President Donald Trump's social media posts don't get as much scrutiny as they have in the past, likely due to his posting exclusively on his fledgling Truth Social website. But since he's running for president again, it's important to examine just how wrong and misinformative his posts really are.
Americans should know the truth about Trump, including how he's spreading falsehoods about himself and the criminal charges he faces. So here, briefly, is an examination of a Truth Social post he recently made:
"ALL POLITICAL PROSECUTIONS OF YOUR FAVORITE PRESIDENT, ME, MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY."
Trump is not America's "favorite" president.
"WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ELECTION, PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY, AND THESE RADICAL LEFT LUNATIC PROSECUTORS AND JUDGES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE DOING THIS."
We are indeed in the middle of the election season (well, the end of its start). But there's no rule or law that says a candidate cannot be criminally charged during an election season. It's actually happened before.
"WHY DIDN’T THEY START THREE YEARS AGO??? BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO INTERFERE WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2024, THAT’S WHY!"
The Department of Justice (DOJ) actually didn't want to start an investigation into Trump right after he left office out of fears of looking political or retributive. After it became clear that he stole classified documents -- and other evidence surfaced from the Jan. 6 committee -- the DOJ felt compelled to act. In Georgia, the investigations actually DID start three years ago, but took longer to conduct, resulting in charges last year.
"According to Section 9-85.500 of the Justice Department’s Justice Manual: 'Federal prosecutors and agents may never select the timing of any action, including investigative steps, criminal charges, or statements, for the purpose of affecting any election, or for the purpose of giving an advantage or disadvantage to any candidate or political party.'"
This same statute is precisely why investigations from Trump HAD to happen. For the same reasons the DOJ shouldn't start an investigation for political purposes, they cannot ignore evidence and refuse to investigate/prosecute for political purposes.
"THIS IS ELECTION INTERFERENCE, AND MUST BE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED."
It is not election interference. It is actually justice. And Trump is receiving his due process.
"I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH ANY FAKE PROSECUTIONS BEFORE THE ELECTION. THIS IS COMMUNISM, AND A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY."
Communism is an economic system, not inherently a set of oppressive ideals or actions. It is not a threat to democracy -- voters can still elect Trump even if he's convicted.
"OUR COUNTRY WILL NOT STAND FOR IT. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
Voters approve of the indictments against Trump.
Trump faces 91 indictment counts across four different criminal trials. The American people deserve to know whether a jury of his peers finds him guilty or not on those counts, before the election happens.
