The Trump administration is providing a false narrative on the killing of a Minnesota man by immigration agents on Saturday.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti [pret-EE, not pretty] was shot and killed by agents on the morning of January 24, 2026. A warning now as video I share later in this video will be graphic.
But before we get to that, first, let's look at the official statement from the Department of Homeland Security. In a post on X they made announcing the shooting, DHS shows a picture purporting to be a gun held by Pretti at the time he was killed. DHS also claims that Pretti "approached US Border Patrol officers with [the] 9 mm semi-automatic handgun."
From what we've seen from at least three angles, at no point does Pretti make any threatening gesture or move toward agents in a dangerous way. Video also shows that Pretti did not approach agents with his gun -- rather, he held a phone in his hand, recording agents actions on the street that morning.
In other video, we also see Pretti getting sprayed in the face with chemicals by agents as he attempts to help a person that the feds had pushed to the ground. At that point, other agents tackle Pretti, holding him down and appearing to pull a gun away from the scene. And after that, agents shoot Pretti, multiple times, killing him there.
The video evidence provides, proof positive, that the administration is lying when they say Pretti "approached" agents with his gun. Pretti is a concealed carry permit holder -- under Minnesota law, he's allowed to carry a gun in public places. And no evidence shows him ever pulling his gun out to threaten agents nearby.
Despite these facts, President Donald Trump doubled down on the administration's falsehoods.
Trump dismissed that Pretti had the gun on his person legally. He also ranted and raved about other Democratic Party figures in Minnesota, including Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, claiming their criticisms of the shooting were "inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric" in criticizing the shooting.
In another Truth Social posting, Trump also claimed that criticism of the attack was merely a "cover up" for supposed fraud in the state.
No, the real "cover up" was DHS and the Trump administration lying about the shooting and killing of Pretti in the first place. That was pure propaganda. Even if Pretti had a gun in his possession, he was legally entitled to do so, and the videos we've seen show that he does not, at any point, even take his gun out.
This administration wants you to disbelieve your own eyes. It's important that we do not fall into that trap -- and that we do not become complacent, challenging the narrative offered by DHS and Trump at every point they try to lie.
Pretti did not threaten agents. He did not "approach" them with his gun. And he did not deserve to die this past weekend.
I'm Chris Walker, thanks for watching.
